Knockin' on Heaven's Doors...

Dear Friends of Shawn,

It is with heavy hearts that we share the following:

On December 13, 2009 at 4:30 pm, Shawn Felty passed peacefully surrounded by family and close friends. He was loved by many, with nearly 100 teammates, fellow actors, colleagues, cancer survivors, cancer fighters, Colondar models and friends visiting him over the last few days. For two years he battled this disease with incredible strength and extraordinary grace and he was inspiration to all who knew him. The world lost an amazing man today, but he left behind a perfect example of perseverance, fortitude and friendship.

Memorial arrangements will be shared when plans are finalized.

I was so excited when I found your blog! There is such a wealth of information here for all those going through this battle. You have clearly touched so many people. May you be at peace and my heart is so sad for all your family and friends who have lost you... Many thoughts are being sent to you all.

Shawn is with God now and sits at his table. I have never met a stronger or more positive person then Shawn. A month ago he came down to my cube here at work and chatted with me. He was there to offer his condolences about my father's recent passing as he knew him from here at DIA too. He gave me a lot of comfort and it struck me how positive he was about life when I couldn't see much positivity.

I hope my father is up there welcoming Shawn at God's table. My thoughts and prayers are with his family during what I know first hand is a difficult time.

I first met "Felt" as a freshman at Pitt in 1988. We were both die hard fans of everything that had to do with Pittsburgh. It did not take long, even then, for me to realize what a fighter he was. I watched in amazement over the past 20 years as people who underestimated Felt, based on his size or youthful appearance, were silenced by his intellect, athletic grace, and sheer determination to simply just live (I always kidded him about the sky diving phase!) He continued to fight with dignity and courage. I am still amazed and will always miss him.

Having never met Shawn but only became aware of his journey through a close friend of his and his blog. I would like to extend my sincere sympathies to family, friends, and all others that may have had the pleasure of knowing Shawn and having him in their life. My his journey have brought more attention and awareness to colon rectal cancer.

Sympathy from CT

Shawn doesn't need to knock. If there is a heaven, the doors are wide open for him. I only had the honor of knowing Shawn for about 10 months, but in that short amount of time, he touched and changed my life. We were all blessed to have even a day with such a remarkable man. Please let me know if there is anything I can do to help his family.

I had the pleasure of knowing Shawn as well as competing against him in various softball leagues.

The vigor and intensity with which he attacked the cancer that weakened his body was the same sort of charateristics that he used on the softball field.

Shawn - I know you are no longer here with us, but I am looking forward to the day when I see you again and I get to step into the batter's box and you are on the pitching rubber on the most pristine softball field we've ever seen.

Rest In Peace my friend.

Shawn and I grew up together... Played baseball (and also got our butts beat down in basketball - especially when we'd play Dwayne's team) side by side since we were 8 years old. Went to the same schools, Swam in the pool and played wiffle ball in his back yard... and shared many of the same stories when we were younger...

But no matter where Shawn was, he was loved by all. He will be missed dearly.

My deepest and sincere condolences to all his family and many friends he has come to know and love along his travels.

He will be remembered. Always.

i am so saddened to hear this. I dont know Shawn, nor ever met him, however, when my husband was first diagnosed with colon cancer just 3 mos ago, I found the web site The Colon Club.

Shawn was a model for the 2010 colondar and I read his story. I was so inspired by his ability to continue playing softball and his strong desire to do so that I used him as an example to my husband as I told him that he too could be like Shawn.

I just found out about Shawn's passing this morning -- the very day my husband is starting his first chemo treatment and it very much saddens me.

I'm also from Alex, Va but moved to KC missouri 2 yrs ago. I'm sure I could speak for all when I say, we have lost a great guy and I hope it brings some comfort to those that truly knew and love Shawn to know that he didn't just touch your lives, he touched the lives of so many others.

I will always remember Shawn and draw strength from his memory when I need it.

Thanks all & may Shawn Rest in Peace
