Birthday celebration...

Thanks to everyone who was able to come out and wish me a happy birthday/good luck in surgery on Saturday. I didn't count, but I estimate about 40 people were there. I had a lot of fun and was glad to see everyone.

I didn't expect gifts, but some were really nice. My friend, Kevin, got me a basketball signed by the head coach at Pitt. He also got me a football schedule signed by some of the best players. I didn't know what to say.

A new guy to the Pitt Alumni Club, John, gave me a CD of songs he had made for his fiance who is also battling cancer. Thanks, John...I listened and its great!

My Air Force base softball team chipped in to get me something, too. Last year they went to play in the military softball world series in Florida while I was recovering from a knee injury. They ended up winning the tournament. They all chipped in and got me a world series ring. I cried.

Jen supplied the cake and cupcakes (as well as getting the bar to supply all the food), so I was able to enjoy my "last supper" before two days of fasting.

Thanks to everyone for all the cards, well-wishes, and just for the support in general. I'll carry that with me to surgery tomorrow.

Shawn, it was so great to see you on Saturday! You are such a rock- I know you will sail through this surgery and you'll be back and better than ever in no time. We'll all be thinking of you and praying for a speedy recovery, and of course sending wonderful Birthday wishes your way on Wednesday!

Shawn - checked in today; so happy to hear you upbeat while moving (bad pun, i know) towards the surgery with those laxatives in hand...YIKES!

Just caught up with your blog (i've been a under the weather lately)...That cake sure looked yummy - Jen is a winner, just like you! And Carol K was absolutely correct - you look great playing softball! There's the Shawn we all know and love.

I know with your positive attitude you'll come through surgery with flying colors and give the docs something to rave about when they open you up and find even more cancer has disappeared! I told you my mom was excellent at praying.

I can't remember the actual words my kids said in a prayer for you, but Shawn, even i was impressed and that's pretty hard to do lately...

I hope you're awake and reading blogs and news and lots of other stuff to fuel your anaesthetic dreams...as we now say at home, "Don't let the BedDogs bite!"
